It's a far cry from the neon-colored shirts and caps that workers wear at many fast-food restaurants. Still, salespeople who work at a number of designer boutiques along Rodeo Drive are required to dress a certain way.

At Louis Vuitton, brown is the required color for workers' apparel. At Gucci, Prada and Armani, it's black. At Zegna, salespeople dress in three-button gray suits with white shirts and designer ties.
"It's a way to have the sales force fit into the collection of the store," said Noah Alexander, Zegna sales manager. "You don't want the clothes of salespeople to speak louder than the store's."
Even so, Alexander said, many patrons are so taken with the look of the sales staff that they sometimes ask if the items are for sale.
