Hollywood Park Inc. may be just about the most misnamed company in town.
It no longer owns the Hollywood Park racetrack or adjacent card casino, having sold them to Churchill Downs Inc. a few months back. And it's in escrow to sell the 140 or so acres surrounding the track. In September,
So why not change the name?
It's not that easy, says Chief Financial Officer Bruce Hinckley, explaining that the company has engaged Baker Design Communications of Los Angeles to design a new logo and name presentation.
"We have to make sure the one we've selected checks out," Hinckley says. "We learned our lesson when trying to launch our Web site for our new Belterra casino in Indiana. Every possible variation on that name had already been reserved or was in use."
So the company won't be unveiling its new name until March.
