The Professional Convention Management Association addressed risk management issues during its annual convention earlier this month and Meeting Professionals International plans to include a session on security issues at its convention in Charlotte, N.C., next
In Orange County, several cities, including Anaheim and Huntington Beach, offer emergency responder classes that are open to residents and businesses.
A Southern California Safety & Security Association conference, slated for April 26 in Anaheim, will host sessions on business continuity and crisis communications, among others.
Hurricane Katrina showed the importance of planning to all community members, said Dave Wiggins, past president of the association, which was formed with the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau and Anaheim Police Department.
"Business and industry have a big stake in what cities do in terms of disaster planning, response and recovery," Wiggins said.
