Anchorage Fracture and Orthopedic Clinic (AFOC) is a full service orthopedic clinic having served Alaskans for more than 34 years. The 10 orthopedic surgeons at AFOC provide general orthopedics, spine, hand care and sports medicine. A major focus is the care of the injured worker. Through training,

education, staffing, technology and other resources, AFOC is uniquely qualified to provide the finest care to the Alaskan worker. Since 1969 Alaskans have been able to turn to AFOC for their orthopedic surgical and fracture management needs. Surgical procedures, such as knee and hip replacement surgery; arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder; spine surgery, including microscopic, scoliosis and trauma care; and complete hand care from carpal tunnel, joint reconstruction, tendon and nerve repair are everyday surgical procedures at Anchorage Fracture and Orthopedic Clinic. New and innovative surgeries-such as minimally invasive joint and spine surgery, mensical repair and transplantation-typify the progressive nature of the surgeons at AFOC.

Newly acquired, fellowship trained, spine surgeon Upshur Spencer brings the total to 10 surgeons staffing the clinic. These 10 surgeons are medical doctors who have had years of extensive and specialized training in the orthopedic care of patients needing surgical attention for bone, joint, ligament, tendon, muscle and nerve problems. M1 of the AFOC surgeons are board certified or eligible by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. Fellowship-trained spine and hand surgeons further raise the quality of care and expertise available at Anchorage Fracture.

Supporting AFOC's surgeons are a variety of professional nurses including RNs, LPNs and medical assistant The efficiency in expediting care to not only the injured worker but also all of AFOC's patients is enhanced by the two nationally certified physician assistants. Availability of physical therapy personnel in-clinic facilitates patient rehabilitation since therapists are in dose contact with the surgeons.

Hand injuries are particularly common when dealing with the injured worker. While most AFOC surgeons treat hand and wrist injuries, having a fellowship-trained hand surgeon on staff raises the availability of care in complex injuries. Dr. Leslie Dean treats a multitude of industrial injuries from overuse conditions, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, to complex nerve and tendon and vascular repairs. On-site hand therapy further expedites the patients' progress.
