Description: Service organization that promotes cultural pluralism and assists refugees and immigrants in adjusting to American life and becoming fully participating citizens. Has member agencies, usually called International Institutes, in 36 cities that act as centers of service and fellowship for all nationalities. Advises its affiliated agencies on program and policy developments affecting the foreign born. Provides local agencies working with immigrants with information on and technical assistance in immigration, language training, social casework, and related service issues. Works to improve immigration and naturalization laws and practices. Cooperates with U.S. government in U.S. resettlement of refugees.
