Reliable sources report that the backup singers and violinists accompanying Israel's Eurovision star Sarit Hadad on Saturday night were security agents.
Some viewers did wonder why the backup performers remained so conspicuously close to Hadad while she performed -- but it is being explained that this too was the result of security considerations. The singer emerged in 12th place of 24 in the singing competition.
In a related note, Swedish and Belgian TV viewers on Saturday night were instructed not to vote for Hadad because of Israel's "policies against PA residents." As the voting began, the TV stations instructed viewers not to vote for Israel.
Viewers of participating nations in the Eurovision song competition cast telephone votes for the best singer but are not permitted to vote for their own country.
