Charlotte, N.C., Doctor Performs New Kind of Weight Loss Surgery.

Aug. 9--Dr. Roc Bauman, a surgeon at NorthEast Medical Center, performed the hospital's first procedure Friday using a recently approved weight-loss device that wraps around a person's stomach like a belt.
The patient was a 54-year old Charlotte woman who asked not to be identified. "Prognosis for the patient is very good," Bauman said.
"We'll be tracking her condition over the next several months, but at this time, everything looks positive."
