MAYWOOD, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 25, 2000

A new peer-reviewed publication in the April 2000 issue of Neurology has again independently verified the utility of Nymox's AD7C(TM) test as an aid to diagnosis in Alzheimer's disease (Neurology

2000: 54:1498-1504).

Neurology is the official journal of the American Academy of Neurology. The clinical researchers in this independent study, led by Dr. Philipp Kahle of Stanford, were from the Departments of Neurobiology, Psychiatry, Behavioral Sciences, and Neurosurgery at Stanford, the Parkinson's Institute of Sunnyvale California, and the Department of Psychiatry of Ludwig-Maximilians-University School of Medicine in Munich, Germany.

The study found that AD7C(TM) was significantly elevated in patients with Alzheimer's disease compared to controls. AD7C levels also correlated significantly with the severity of dementia symptoms. The article stated, "levels of AD7C-NTP correlated with severity of dementia as assessed by MMSE (Mini-Mental State Evaluation), consistent with the previous study using the Blessed dementia scale." (NTP is an abbreviation for neural thread protein.)

Dr. Michael Munzar, Medical Director of Nymox, said, "AD7C has repeatedly been shown in numerous independent studies to be an early, accurate, and useful biochemical marker for Alzheimer's disease. Importantly, in the new publication in Neurology AD7C has again been shown to be the only marker shown to correlate with the severity of memory loss in AD. This clearly supports its clinical utility as an aid to diagnosis in Alzheimer's disease."
