May 2--EAST GREENWICH, R.I. -- On paper, honor student Elyse Monti is impressive.

The 17-year-old ranks fifth in her class, holds down a full load of extracurricular activities, and will soon be on her way to Washington, D.C., as a finalist for a national community-service award.

In person, Elyse is no slouch either. She is bubbly and articulate, with a quick smile and eyes that exude an effusive energy.
