News From Romania - the Children HIV ANTICORT infacapsClinical Study to be Completed June 2000,...

LAS VEGAS--(BW Healthwire)--Dec. 8, 1999--

Steroidogenesis Inhibitors International (OTCBB:STGI) has received an updated report from Romania, sent by Dr. Nicolae Voiculetz, STGI's monitor of the study.

Dr. Voiculetz is an MD, Ph.D. biochemistry, Professor of Molecular Biology,

University of Bucharest, Bucharest, Romania, Recipient of Eleanor Roosevelt Fellowship in 1971, and visiting professor Stanford University, California. He has 192 papers and publications in the U.S. and European countries.

According to Dr. Voiculetz' report, at the present time there are 34 children receiving the ANTICORT infacaps(TM) treatment, with an interim report on them to be submitted to STGI in mid-January 2000. It is estimated that the whole group of 50 children will have their treatment completed in June 2000, with a report and request for "fast track" approval submitted September 2000 to the AGENTIA NATIONALA A MEDICAMENTULUI, the Romanian equivalent of the U.S. FDA. According to the information available, the whole process of approval might take 90 days, if related to AIDS.

As Steroidogenesis reported earlier, the ANTICORT infacaps(TM) clinical study is carried out in five groups of ten children HIV positives, out of which four groups received different regimens/doses of ANTICORT infacaps(TM) and one group on a placebo. Most of these children are on AZT medication, with very few receiving the new protease inhibitors. Dr. Voiculetz reports positive changes induced by the ANTICORT infacaps(TM) treatment with the physical appearance of the children's' growth, weight, less symptoms of depression, as well as on immune and cortisol values. There are nil to minimal side effects at the present time, none of which interfered with the continuation of the treatment. One aspect of the study will investigate the possibility that lower amounts of AZT may be needed, if in combination with ANTICORT infacaps(TM). Dr. Sapse, President and CEO of STGI, stated, "We are very pleased with the report received, and believe that before too long, ANTICORT infacaps(TM) will take its place in the treatment armamentarium of children HIV/AIDS in Romania as well as in other countries where AIDS afflicts millions of children."

STGI is pursuing the worldwide development and distribution of its drug, ANTICORT(TM), which is currently in the clinical trial process as an anticortisol, steroidogenesis inhibitor drug for the treatment of immune deficiency in AIDS/HIV+. Satellite open clinical trials are also projected in the treatment of other diseases such as certain symptoms of aging, cancer and depression, all of which are high cortisol conditions.
