The Jewish Guild for the Blind to provide WeMedia magazine on tape
for blind and visually impaired persons
WeMedia Inc., the leading media company dedicated to serving 54 million Americans with disabilities, their families and friends, announced today that they have partnered with The Jewish Guild for the Blind (The Guild) to provide WeMedia magazine on audiotape for persons who are blind and visually impaired.
"Eliminating access barriers is very important to us," said Alan R. Morse, JD, PhD, president and CEO, The Jewish Guild for the Blind.
"By making WeMedia magazine available on tape, thousands of blind and visually impaired people will be able to enjoy this informative and entertaining magazine by making a single phone call," added Morse. "The focus of WeMedia magazine - disabilities, lifestyle and access - makes them a perfect partner for us," said Morse.
The magazine launched in 1997 as a bimonthly lifestyle magazine for people with disabilities. Since then, the publication has won accolades for its impressive editorial content and innovative approach to cross-disability issues.
In December 1999, WeMedia Inc, the leading media company for people with disabilities, their families and friends, launched www.wemedia.com, a comprehensive online resource for people with disabilities that includes targeted information, products and services in the areas of news, sports, technology, advocacy, shopping, employment, education, finance, and real estate, among others.
The Jewish Guild for the Blind is a New York-based health care agency that has been serving blind and visually impaired persons for almost 90 years.
The Guild, one of this country's foremost vision care agencies, provides an exceptionally wide range of programs and services, many of which are often used as models by other vision agencies as well as state and city vision care departments.
WeMedia magazine will be recorded and produced at The Guild's Cassette Library, a library of books-on-tape which is available without charge to blind and visually impaired people living throughout the US and in many overseas countries.
"Through this partnership, WeMedia further extends the access of important and timely information to an even broader audience," stated Cary Fields, president and CEO, WeMedia Inc. "Now, blind and visually impaired persons can enjoy WeMedia magazine as an educational and entertainment resource," Fields added.
