HILLSBORO, Ore., and MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BW HealthWire)--June 22, 2000

Company Takes 10% Stake in LifeChart.com,

Joining Investors Nokia, Johnson & Johnson and Others

MedicaLogic/ Medscape, Inc.(NASDAQ:MDLI) and LifeChart.com, Inc. today announced a strategic partnership to integrate Internet and wireless disease management tools and services for asthma, diabetes and other chronic conditions with MedicaLogic/Medscape's electronic medical records (EMR) and clinical content. The partnership is a key step in MedicaLogic/Medscape's drive to combine these and other services at the point of patient care using Internet and wireless technologies.

MedicaLogic/Medscape has also acquired approximately 10% of LifeChart.com, an innovative provider of Internet and wireless health management tools whose other investors include Nokia Group, the world's leading mobile phone supplier and a leading supplier of mobile, fixed and IP networks and related services; Johnson & Johnson; and Sitra, the Finnish National Research and Development Fund. Lifechart.com's current operations include Nokia's former eHealth business initiative known as Wellmate(R). Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The partnership - allowing MedicaLogic/Medscape to broaden its range of wireless solutions in the marketplace - gives physicians and patients the opportunity to exchange personal health data via electronic monitoring devices, the Internet and cellular phones. MedicaLogic/Medscape will also provide patients with personal, online records containing trend reports of their own health information. Physicians and other health professionals who have access to this trended data will have a new means of monitoring, measuring and modifying prescribed therapies to improve health outcomes. The announcement comes just three days after MedicaLogic/Medscape said it plans to use wireless Palm(TM)-based handheld devices to bring physicians new prescription management, drug reference, and news and information services in the next several months as a result of its recent acquisition of AnywhereMD.com, a company using mobile technology to treat patients from virtually any location.

MedicaLogic/Medscape expects to offer LifeChart.com's new and expanding range of disease management tools and services to its growing base of physicians and consumers, employing handheld, connected devices, such as Lifechart.com's AIRWATCH(R) asthma monitor and products that enable data transmission from blood glucose meters (for diabetes). Patients will be able to access their personal online medical records through MedicaLogic/Medscape's 98point6 site, www.98point6.com, or by using the interactive health management tools available on the company's cbs.healthwatch.com site, http://cbs.healthwatch.com. The two partners are expected to offer consumers integrated solutions and tools for hypertension, clinical obesity, weight control and medication compliance in the coming months. All of these are to be combined with the trusted and authoritative medical and health information provided by the company's professional site, medscape.com, www.medscape.com, as well as by cbs.healthwatch.com. MedicaLogic/Medscape is hosting the integrated products at its data center.

"Our mission is to provide health information that matters -- saving time, costs, and even lives - and LifeChart.com's extraordinary disease management tools and programs certainly fit that description," said MedicaLogic/Medscape Chairman of the Board Mark Leavitt, MD, PhD. "Our new strategic partnership with LifeChart.com, and its relationship with Nokia, as well as our recent acquisition of AnywhereMD, will make our product offerings for patient-physician connectivity even richer. As we integrate LifeChart.com's growing list of programs into our existing consumer and professional initiatives, we will be able to extend the point of care beyond the physician's exam room, bringing the patient and physician together at any location, at any time, and influencing the major decisions in health care today. We have been a leader in pursuing this vision and are rapidly making it a reality."

"We are creating a base to greatly improve patients' quality of life as we confront the national challenges of bringing asthma, diabetes and other chronic health conditions under control," said LifeChart.com CEO Hans Ehrnrooth. " We feel very strongly that our partnership with MedicaLogic/ Medscape and its investment in LifeChart.com allow us to combine the best technology, personnel and marketing resources for offering affordable total eHealth solutions and tools to self-monitor, manage and record data for patients with chronic health concerns."

Dr. Leavitt noted that the need for new approaches to disease management would continue to grow as a result of longer life spans, an aging population and an increasing number of people living with chronic conditions. "Physicians and patients need to be connected in more flexible and powerful ways," he said, " and these new approaches should lower costs, while increasing convenience and quality."
