Serologicals Holdings Acquires Acadiana Ventures, Inc.; Expands Therapeutic Product Line.

Atlanta, GA--(Health Wire)--January 4, 1995--Serologicals Holdings, Inc., formerly Serologicals, Inc., announced today that it has reached an agreement to acquire Acadiana Ventures, Inc. of Lafayette, LA. Founded in 1974, Acadiana operates 13 FDA-licensed donor centers in the U.S. and, as part of

the acquisition, will open an additional 7 new donor centers by the end of 1996. Acadiana's centers specialize in the production of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), a therapeutic product that boosts the human immune system of patients whose immune systems have been compromised by diseases or treatments for diseases, such as chemotherapy for cancer.

"The acquisition of Acadiana positions us for future opportunities, while immediately expanding our product line with IVIG, a product whose demand as a therapeutic is rapidly growing," said Harold J. Tenoso, Ph.D., President of Serologicals Holdings. "It also more than doubles our donor center locations, significantly increasing our access to an expanded network of donors for rare antibodies used to manufacture our diagnostic products."

Acadiana, which will be renamed Seramune, Inc., will function as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Serologicals Holdings. Serologicals Holdings currently operates 10 FDA-licensed rare antibody donor centers in the U.S., a clinical laboratory in Atlanta, a monoclonal antibody laboratory, a manufacturing facility in Scotland and R&D laboratories in England and Norway.

Serologicals Holdings, Inc., headquartered in Atlanta, is an international biologic-based pharmaceutical company that manufactures and markets rare human antibodies to the diagnostic and therapeutic healthcare industry for use in diagnosing, treating and preventing a wide range of diseases, including hepatitis, rabies and Rh hemolytic disease of the newborn. In addition, Serologicals Holdings is pursuing product development opportunities in the areas of Rh factor (monoclonal anti-D) antibodies, passive immunity and hematopoietic stem cell therapy to treat conditions such as infectious diseases, immune disorders and cancer.
