HEALTHIEST EMPLOYERS of Indiana: Meeting Services Unlimited
Monday, September 21 2009
Debbie Lockyear, president of Indianapolis-based Meeting Services Unlimited Inc., has always been interested in fitness and health, but when the meeting-planning firm handled the governor's INShape Indiana Health Summit, she was inspired to spread that interest to her entire staff.
"I wanted to see my employees become healthier and take care of them," she said.
Because Meeting Services Unlimited has just seven full-time employees, Lockyear decided to bring in an outside firm, Express Health, part of Indianapolis-based Spectrum Health Systems and one of the presenters at the conference, to establish a wellness program.
Express Health's comprehensive program includes health assessments that measure blood pressure, total cholesterol, cholesterol ratios, glucose, pulse and body composition. A weight-management program and health advice are also offered.
But Lockyear didn't stop there.
She personally took charge of the company's wellness program with activities ranging from setting up an on-site fitness center to participating in group walks at nearby Washington Square Mall. "I try to lead by example, Lockyear said.
