More companies intend to attempt to crack European satellite broadband market.

* Pan-European ISP Tiscali has agreed a deal with Israeli satellite company Gilat to launch satellite-based broadband Internet access in Europe. Tiscali (Italy; +39 070 46011; www.tiscali.com)is already testing satellite access with some customers and expects to begin commercial offering in autumn 2001. Company hopes to offer access across Europe by year end. Tiscali's ISPs currently have 16m registered subscribers across Europe, of whom 7m are active. Gilat is also involved in Starband sate
