AT&T extends True Discount plans, sets new prices for basic service.

announced the extension of several promotional discount programs as well as a small increase in basic interstate long-distance prices that will average about 40 cents a month for consumers. The company also said it would change prices for other selected consumer and business services.

The basic rate increase better aligns AT&T's prices with the cost of providing service, and is the company's first increase for residential direct-dialed calls in more than a year. Average interstate long-distance prices continue to be more than 60 percent below the level of a decade ago due to vigorous competition in the industry.

The company also announced a 20-cent per call increase on the interstate call service charge for the use of non-AT&T credit cards, reflecting higher costs of these transactions.

The small increase for business services will affect Software Defined Network, some 800 services, and the ACCUNET family of services.
