Southern New Jersey commuters now have access to real-time traffic information as part of an expansion of SmarTraveler services provided by the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) and SmartRoute Systems
Starting this week, South Jersey/Camden area commuters have access to up-to-the-minute, route-specific traffic and transit information via mobile and landline telephone as well as the Internet. Commuters can reach the service by dialing (856) 795-9400. Mobile phone users can reach the service with a call by dialing Cellular #211 from most mobile phones (a free call from CellularOne and SprintPCS). Online traffic information is available at www.SmarTraveler.com.
The coverage area for the service includes roadways and major thoroughfares from Trenton to the Delaware Memorial Bridge in southwestern New Jersey. Highways covered include: Interstate 76/NJ 42, I-95 and I-295; US 1, 30 and 322; NJ 38, 70, and 90; all of the Delaware River bridges and the New Jersey Turnpike. The service also includes information on current transit conditions on PATCO, NJ Transit and Mercer Metro buses. SmartRoute Systems has established a workstation at the New Jersey Department of Transportation Traffic Operations Center in Mount Laurel, staffed by a Traffic Information Manager.
