WATERLOO, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 1, 2001

Finline Technologies Ltd. (CDNX:FIN.) is pleased to announce that it has presented a paper describing a recent breakthrough in its Impress Image Compression research to the Computer-Based Medical Systems Conference

held July 26 and 27, 2001, at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.

Finline since its acquisition of Impress Image Compression Inc has made significant advances in the development of its wavelet based image compression technology, including patents in the United States and Europe. Finline is considered the leader in the development of wavelet based image compression and is presently seeking strategic alliances to bring its solution to world markets, For further information please refer to the "Proceedings, Fourteenth IEEE Symposium", 26-27 July, 2001 or www.finline.com

Andrew Zador, Vice President of Technology, and inventor of the Impress technology said: "This paper describes ways to improve on our current Impress technology, already far superior to JPEG and other compression methods. Dr. Vadim Kustov and I have presented a new, dramatic change in the way wavelets can be coded, compressing images far more efficiently than was previously possible. Our new algorithm has applications in medical imaging, security, and remote sensing, not to mention applications outside of imaging, such as audio and geology."

"This exciting advance further promotes Finline as the leader in wavelet compression development. We will be able to apply this technology to all fields of imaging, video. fixed wireless broadband and other markets," said Einar Fiskvatn, President and CEO.
