A Few PDA Etiquette Lessons to Teach Your Kids (Please)
Cell phones and texting is all the rage among teens these days. But that doesn't mean there can be no limits.
I'm not naive -- I know that separating kids from their texting machines is, um, hella hard. But in order to help them grow up to be functioning, semi-successful adults, please at least teach them a couple rules of appropriate use:
*Don't text (or read a text) while talking to an adult;
*Don't text (or read a text) while cooking (for the sake of the phone and the food);
*Don't text (or read) a text while driving;
*Don't call another kid (or adult) more than once every couple of hours -- because cell phones keep a record of who has called and it is totally humiliating to be caught out calling obssessively;
*Do put the phone away during meals, homework, while visiting with relatives, and while attending museums, concerts, and movies -- even if you see other grown-ups checking their texts and emails there.
