Newest Release of Portal's Customer Management and Billing Software
First to Include a Convergent Platform Capable of Supporting Prepaid
and Postpaid Communications and Content
Portal Software, Inc. (Nasdaq:PRSF) today announced the latest version of its customer management and billing software, Infranet(R) 6.2. Infranet 6.2 includes significant architectural enhancements and features for Portal's Infranet Wireless, with support for voice, data and content services (see separate press release issued today titled Portal Software Announces Convergent Solution for Wireless Services).
With the industry's first successful integration of high-performance batch and transactional real-time technologies, Infranet 6.2 is designed to enable the convergence of voice and value-added services, and prepaid and postpaid pricing plans -- essential capabilities for the business models of wireless and other communications service providers. Infranet 6.2 includes expanded payment gateway options for direct debit payments as well.
In one year Portal has effectively integrated into Infranet 6.2 technology from its acquisition of SOLUTION42 in November 2000. New features from the acquisition include fully integrated high-performance batch rating, support for wireless voice rating, enablers for voice provisioning, support for retroactive transaction rate changes, multi-service authorization in a prepaid environment and direct debit interface. This expanded feature set enables convergent operators to launch billing for voice and value-added services on a single platform.
"Today's highly competitive market dynamics, along with technology advances, are driving communication and content providers to offer a combination of convergent services, payment options, and pricing models," said Levent Toros, Senior Analyst, Next-Generation OSS & Billing, IDC. "A key element to successfully managing this growing complexity is a powerful and flexible customer management and billing solution that is designed to adapt in quickly evolving service environments."
Infranet 6.2 also features a new Customer Center, written completely in Java, to optimize customer support operations. The center is easily customizable with open, published APIs to meet each company's unique business requirements, and contains a toolkit for commonly requested modifications. The result is considerably reduced implementation and ownership costs, as well as less time required to train customer service personnel. The center's Web-based design allows for centralized deployment and administration. The new Customer Care center software comes out-of-the-box with an easy to operate user-centered design process.
"The launch of Infranet 6.2 makes Portal the only company that can offer convergent billing capabilities on a single platform for voice, data and content services, prepaid and postpaid payment options, transactional real-time and high-performance batch billing, and complex partner settlements," said Bob Vieraitis, vice president of product marketing at Portal Software. "These sophisticated capabilities give providers a leading edge in customer satisfaction and retention, and help them maximize revenue potential."
Infranet 6.2 will be supported on IBM P-series, Sun Solaris, HP-UX and Windows NT/2000 platforms.
Infranet 6.2 is currently scheduled for general availability later this calendar year. Portal retains complete discretion to change the availability date and the features and functionality of this release. Statements regarding future product releases, features, functionality, and shipment dates are forward-looking statements. The product development process is subject to a variety of inherent or unanticipated risks and the actual results and shipment dates could differ materially. Such differing results could result from, feature changes, development or testing difficulties, changes in software or hardware standards or interfaces, shortages in appropriately skilled engineers, software errors, project management and other factors inherent in the development of complex software products.
