University of Mississippi journalism professor Samir Husni believes that periodical publishing is flourishing, not dying, judging from the number of new magazines available today. Husni, who teaches a course on magazine publishing and publishes an annual guide to new consumer magazines, spends almost $15,000 a year on periodicals. He believes that visiting newsstands is the best way to gauge both the health of the magazine publishing industry and the interests of the magazine-buying public.
