China will censor "vulgar content" such as extramarital sex, violence and porn, the country's vigilant TV authority has pledged, as it continues to tighten control on media.

"We will make great efforts to straighten out TV programs. Local TV stations will be severely punished if their programs are found to contain vulgar content," Wang Weiping, deputy director of TV drama under the State Administration of Radio, Film & Television, told a censorship conference in the southwestern city of Chengdu over the weekend.
