Bertelsmann settles Napster-era suit, sells BMG publishing.(LEGAL MATTERS)(Brief article)

There were a lot of loose ends left over from when the record labels sued Napster, the original one. One was the suit the other labels brought against Bertelsmann for financing Napster. That aspect was settled this week as part of the deal in which Bertelsmann sold its BMG music publishing (not recording) business to Vivendi for around $2.1 billion (1.63 billion[euro]).

The two companies issued a supposedly unconnected statement that said Vivendi's Universal Music Group has dropped all of its claims against Bertelsmann relating to the Napster matter.
