Do downloads really keep music fans out of stores? Some of the latest research about the impact of music downloads on the music industry couldn't be more divergent.

A study commissioned by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and released Aug. 26, as might be expected, concludes that consumers who have increased their music downloads over the Internet in the past six months also are buying fewer CDs by a 2-to-1 margin.
