Regarding Elizabeth Welsh's June cover story on shooting Super8 ("Reeling in the Years," pp. 44-51), I am afraid that I just don't understand the insistence upon a pursuing a "film look" by shooting at 24p or, even worse, incorporating telecined Super8 footage.
Basically, what these people seem to want to do is degrade the video to match an inferior medium (inferior, that is, when it is transferred back to video). 24p frame rates are simply not as accurate as 30p, 60p, or 60i, so flicker is being introduced.
