About Pacific Microsonics and HDCD
Developed by Pacific Microsonics, HDCD(R) (High Definition Compatible Digital(R)) is a patented process for delivering on Compact Disc and DVD-Audio the full richness and detail of the original microphone feed. By correcting distortions found in current digital recording technology, HDCD provides extended dynamic range, a focused 3-D sound stage, and extremely natural musical timbre.
HDCD recordings offer improved sound quality on any CD player, and when reproduced on HDCD equipped players they provide true 20-bit sound quality from the 16-bit Compact Disc format. Over 4,000 different HDCD CD titles have been recorded and over 200 million HDCD CDs have been sold. There are more than 100 different HDCD-equipped CD players, DVD players, and A/V receivers now available from world-leading consumer electronics companies including Toshiba, Denon, Harman Kardon, Kenwood, Linn, Madrigal (Mark Levinson), Marantz, Rotel, Sansui, and Arcam.
