Warner Bros. Pictures will release the romantic drama "Charlotte Gray," starring Cate Blanchett ("The Gift"), Billy Crudup ("Almost Famous") and Michael

Gambon ("The Insider"), in three cities on Dec. 28, with a larger platform release to follow after the first of the year.

The limited "Charlotte Gray" debut, bowing in New York, Los Angeles and Toronto, will qualify the highly regarded film for Academy Award consideration for the 2001 season.

"Charlotte Gray" is the first feature film release under the multi-picture alliance between Warner Bros. Pictures and FilmFour.

Set in Nazi-occupied France at the height of World War II, "Charlotte Gray" tells the compelling story of a young Scottish woman (Cate Blanchett) working with the French Resistance in the hope of rescuing her lover, a missing RAF pilot.

Directed by Gillian Armstrong ("Oscar and Lucinda") and based on the best-selling novel by Sebastian Faulks, "Charlotte Gray" is an Ecosse Films and a Pod Films production. The film is produced by Sarah Curtis and Douglas Rae, from a screenplay by Jeremy Brock, with whom they are reunited following the success of their collaboration on the award-winning feature film "Mrs. Brown." The co-producers are Catherine Kerr and Elinor Day. Paul Webster, Robert Bernstein and Hanno Huth serve as executive producers.

"Charlotte Gray" is a Warner Bros. Pictures presentation in association with FilmFour and Senator Film. Warner Bros. Pictures, an AOL Time Warner Company, will distribute the film in North America, FilmFour in the United Kingdom and Senator Film in Germany.
