Sep. 3--The summer movie season managed to gross a record $3.87 billion at the box office thanks to three consecutive weekends of increased revenues down the stretch, according to final figures released Tuesday.
Box office tracker Paul Dergarabedian, president of Exhibitor Relations Co., said films released from the beginning of May through Labor Day weekend just edged past last year's whopping $3.79 billion for the same time period.
