A code of journalistic ethics can help guide a periodical's management over some dilemas, but not every question of conduct can be covered by any code of professional behavior. Factual presentation of information is the goal of journalism and standards are needed as a guide to conduct. An internal mechanism to help confront problems, rather than an elaborate set of rules, is what is needed.
