BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 14, 1999--

Lucent Technologies Network Wireless Group and LM Ericsson

Among Initial Customers for New Product

WatchMark Corp., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU), today announced the introduction of a

powerful network performance analysis software tool, WatchMark Prospect(TM) based on the Oracle 8i(TM) time series functions This advanced software tool enables carriers to monitor the performance and service quality of their networks in real-time over the Web.

Available immediately, the WatchMark Prospect software enables network operators to troubleshoot network traffic problems and maintain their networks with greater efficiency. Carriers will be able to provide improved service to their customers by identifying and helping to resolve network traffic and performance problems. WatchMark Prospect provides the basis for new performance management capabilities that will be bundled with Lucent's Wireless software releases, beginning in the year 2000. The software is also being used by LM Ericsson in their centralized network surveillance center in Richardson, Texas.

"WatchMark Prospect brings the power of the Web to wireless network maintenance, enabling our customers to provide the best possible service," notes Steve Roberts, president and chief executive officer of WatchMark Corp. "Because of Oracle's leading open database technology, Prospect provides operators unconstrained access to critical network information they could never see before."

WatchMark Prospect, the result of collaboration between WatchMark and Oracle Corp., marks the first integration of Oracle 8i's powerful time series functions in the telecommunications industry.

Oracle8i(TM), the latest generation of the world's leading database and the first designed specifically as an Internet development and deployment platform, has many time series analytical functions that provide companies the ability to conduct large scale sophisticated analysis of their time series data.

"By utilizing the Web-enabled database technology of Oracle8i, telecommunications carriers gain greater flexibility in accessing information regarding network faults or performance data of any kind," said Stan Holmes, vice president, Business Development and Strategy for Communications, Oracle Corp. "We believe that WatchMark Prospect, which is the first integration of Oracle8i's time series functions in the telecom arena, will demonstrate the capabilities of our Web-based solutions for this industry."

Using Oracle 8i time series software, WatchMark Prospect provides carriers with sophisticated telecommunications functions including teletraffic functionality, busy-hour analysis algorithms and advanced trending techniques that enable forecasting of future demand or prediction of equipment shortages before they actually occur and impact quality of service.

The WatchMark Prospect tool set was built using WatchMark's unique FLEXJET software platform architecture. This enables customers unparalleled flexibility in viewing and analyzing the data stored in WatchMark Prospect. Customers may synergistically use WatchMark Prospect with WatchMark Extreme(TM) to incorporate web-enabled graphs and reports or WatchMark Pilot(TM), a full geographical information system that provides powerful thematic mapping capabilities.

Additional network data, such as fault management (e.g. alarms), customer trouble reports, billing system reports, and configuration data can also be integrated alongside the performance measurement data of WatchMark Prospect to provide a full view of a network. Such a solution allows for a comprehensive enterprise information portal containing a complete view of all network events.

WatchMark Prospect bridges the gap between equipment vendor-provided systems and other performance measurement products in the marketplace. It has been designed to give management, performance engineers, marketing departments, customer service agents, and operational staff, etc. a customized, logical, and straightforward user interface to all the metrics of a system.

Full support is provided for multi-vendor networks where performance metrics from different equipment types can be compared directly by use of derived counters and expressions. The system is fully configurable and can be easily customized to meet special customer requirements. This allows it to rapidly accommodate changes in the network including additions or upgrades to network elements.
