The World's Largest Entrepreneur Conference Goes Bold in Santa Clara May 15-16 2009.

PrintI had the chance the other day to sit down with Gary Guaba, a volunteer for TiEcon, and talk about the conference. The theme this year is "The Bold Entrepreneur", which I interpret as saying, "Don't be afraid like everyone else is in the bad economy. See it as an opportunity and seize an advantage."
To help seize the advantage, this year's TiEcon includes a competition called the TiE50 where 1200 companies have been nominated across 5 categories: consumer web, internet infrastructure, clean tech, wireless, and software. The 1200 has be winnowed down to 155 finalists, of which 50 will be selected as the most innovative.
As of now, there are 3,000 pre-registered attendees which is up 20% from this time last year.
