TBS Superstation's WORST-CASE
On Wednesday, July 3, those who have wondered how they would fare tackling intense challenges are invited to apply online to take part in the new television series based on the book.
The online application is available through TBS Superstation's Web site (TBSsuperstation.com). Following completion of the application, each potential participant must forward a two-minute videotape that shows why he/she is right for the mission, demonstrating bravery and a sense of adventure. All applications and videotapes must be submitted by midnight on Sept. 15, 2001, to be considered. CTTD is responsible for reviewing and selecting all participant applications and videos for potential inclusion in the show.
If chosen, participants in the WORST-CASE SCENARIO television series will set out to conquer an outrageous scenario with guidance from experts. These segments will then air on the prime-time series, which is being produced for TBS Superstation by Columbia TriStar Television Distribution.
The WORST-CASE SCENARIO series launches exclusively on the Superstation in January 2002. Craig Piligian, who is co-executive producer of CBS' Survivor, Survivor: The Australian Outback and Survivor: Africa, will serve as executive producer.
The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook, written by Joshua Piven and David Borgenicht, tackles the world's most extreme situations in which people could find themselves, from jumping off a burning roof to winning a wrestling bout with an alligator. Published in 1999, the book's tone--tongue-in-cheek, yet informative--drove it into numerous printings and onto the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble bestseller lists. Two editions of "The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Calendar" weekly planners have been published as well.
Columbia TriStar Television Distribution (CTTD.com) is one of the leading content providers to the television industry. Its slate of original programming includes the syndicated series Ricki Lake, Judge Hatchett, V.I.P. and Sheena, as well as the upcoming dating series Shipmates and the game show Pyramid, hosted by Donny Osmond. It has also established itself as a major programming source for cable networks; in addition to TBS Superstation's Ripley's Believe It or Not!(R), it produces such series as Lifetime's Strong Medicine, the Showtime drama Going to California and the upcoming TNT non-fiction drama Residents, with R.J. Cutler (The War Room, American High) serving as executive producer.
