Report: rosy future for IPTV in Europe.(internet protocol television)

The number of pay-TV consumers using IPTV will grow to nearly 8.7 million in Europe over the next four years, according to market researcher Screen Digest. That would give IPTV about a 10% share of the pay-TV market. Report author Daniel Schmitt says telcos such as BT and France Telecom would benefit most from IPTV, using their phone lines to deliver content.

IPTV subscriptions in Europe have increased 66% so far this year and with more services about to launch, 2005 is projected to see a 200% increase on 2004 figures.
