Korean fixed operator begins wireless trial.

Korea's second largest broadband operator has commenced trial of 2.3 GHz wireless Internet service. Hanaro Telecom claims new mobile communication service will transmit data at an average speed of 1 Mbps and offer range of broadband applications including video-on-demand (VoD), online gaming and Internet browsing. Company considers service to be an interim technology between wireless networks (Wi-Fi) and Internet access via mobile phones. Trial service is based on flash orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technology developed by US-based wireless firm Flarion.
