KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 6, 2000
Motorola (NYSE:MOT) today received a multimillion dollar order from Malaysia's Network Guidance, an operator of multimedia-on-demand (MOD) services over television.
Motorola will provide Streamaster(TM)
"We are thrilled to be working with Network Guidance to deliver high quality home entertainment services," said Jacqueline Beauchamp, director and general manager of the Multimedia Systems Division.
"Our Streamaster solution, which is a great example of Digital DNA(TM) from Motorola, provides flexibility and a variety of smart features which Network Guidance sought to provide consumers with a compelling multimedia experience."
Network Guidance's customers have specifically requested services that Streamaster systems can provide, with room for additional services to be added in the future. Initially, customers will enjoy a host of interactive home entertainment features, such as:
-- Hundreds of movies in which subscribers are free to choose the
type of movies they want via title selection or a performers
index;
-- A variety of programs including sports, religious and drama, in
different languages, such as Bahasa Malaysia, English, Chinese and
Hindi, available in the Mix & Blend channel;
-- Karaoke-on-demand and music videos available on the "Music-U-Want"
channel where subscribers are able to choose a selection of music
videos based on their favorite artists or songs;
-- "ToonStuffs," a channel that offers a multitude of animated
programming tailored for children.
"Motorola's Streamaster solution offers us the services that our customers have been demanding, and we are very happy to be working with them to bring these features to market," noted Ida Rahayu, managing director of Network Guidance.
"We were looking for a solution that could maximize the services we want to offer now and in the future. Streamaster's multimedia architecture enables us to upgrade or change functionality through our network, eliminating the costly and time-consuming need to change hardware. Streamaster and Network Guidance are an excellent match."
Motorola's Streamaster technology is an open, extensible multimedia architecture aimed at revolutionizing video entertainment and video communications. This architecture combines the key functions of a broadband router, a network computer and a digital home theater platform.
This architecture offers integration of communications and interactive entertainment, including video-on-demand, networked and DVD-based 3D game, video information and conferencing, high-speed Internet access, secure electronic commerce and karaoke.
This announcement marks the first Motorola Streamaster customer in Malaysia.
