WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 15, 2004

Wireless ISP Uses Orthogon's Technology to Strengthen

Network Architecture and Business Plan

Orthogon Systems(TM), the leading provider of Non-Line-of-Sight (NLoS) wireless systems, and Rapid Systems, a leading Internet Service Provider (ISP) across the State of Florida, today announced the successful deployment of several challenging NLoS point-to-point wireless links, enabling carrier-class connections where other wireless systems could not operate. The ability to connect reliably around obstacles gives Rapid Systems a higher bandwidth, less expensive alternative to leased line (T1/T3) connectivity, making it possible for the ISP to offer carrier-class Internet access service at a highly competitive price point. It also enables Rapid Systems to extend its reach to customers and geographies not currently served by broadband operators in the state of Florida.

"The Rapid Systems network is on the leading edge, providing new and better services to its customers. We are pleased to be part of such an advanced wireless network where the OS-Gemini is deployed in the environments it was built for, long range obstructed paths over land and water," said Phil Bolt, president and CEO of Orthogon Systems. "After Rapid Systems' rigorous testing, its recurring selection of the OS-Gemini is indeed an honor."

Overcoming Metropolitan Challenges

The tallest building in Tampa, Florida, 42 stories, prohibits antennae on its rooftop. And the top floor poses difficulty for antennae - there is no clear line-of-sight into the building due to an architectural facade made of large metal grating. Although the building height is ideal, traditional point-to-point systems were unable to provide an NLoS connection around the metal grating. By deploying the OS-Gemini on the top floor, Rapid Systems was able to make a high bandwidth connection (over 15 Mbps in both directions) across the city to its data center, on a 55 foot tower located 3 miles away. The carrier-grade link to the building enables Rapid Systems to deliver service to many different businesses in the 42-story office building, by feeding a Motorola Canopy point-to-multipoint wireless system connected to the OS-Gemini on the top floor.
