Proxim Wireless Corporation (Nasdaq:PRXM), a provider of core-to-client solutions for broadband wireless networks, announced on Friday (9 May) that it has supplied broadband wireless equipment to the Port de La Rochelle in France

to ensure enhanced security of the port facilities.

The solution was provided by CTV, a systems integrator and a Proxim Wireless certified partner. According to the company, CTV implemented a wireless fibre ring using the Point-to-Point Proxim Tsunami QuickBridge.11 for the backhauling of the video surveillance cameras and access controls. The system connects all of the port entry points and provides redundancy in case of link failure. In addition, it can remotely grant or prevent access to visiting vehicles.

The solution reportedly provides WiMAX capabilities and secured links using the Proxim Wireless protocol WORP (Wireless Outdoor Router Protocol), which is designed to optimize the performance of outdoor wireless Point-to-Point and Point-to-Multipoint links.

The Proxim Tsunami QuickBridge.11 Series operates in the 2.4GHz, 4.9GHz and 5GHz frequency bands. It features QoS support for converged video, voice and data, enhanced security with AES encryption, high-performance with Dynamic Data Rate Selection and WORP, as well as a high power 5GHz version for extended range, the company claims.

No financial details were disclosed.
