If television advertising is any indicator of societal trends, then the humble phone has truly inherited the earth. Any given hour in front of the tube brings a blizzard of ads for cell phones, cell plans, cell accessories, and everything related. The $800-billion-a-year U.S. telecommunications industry wants you--and it seems to be getting you.

As a result, there's no shortage of reporting and analysis on the subject of telecom. We're happy to leave the bulk of it for others, but once a year we do like to zero in on a couple of areas of the telecom/telephony bonanza.
