ATX Announces Latest Addition to Embedded CellularTracking Systems.

SAN ANTONIO--(AutomotiveWire)--July 24, 1997--With the addition of embedded two-way voice communication, ATX Technologies has again proven that it is the industry leader in GPS/cellular applications. ATX has announced their latest addition to the OnGuard family with the release of the OnGuard

LA. The OnGuard LA utilizes embedded cellular technology along with new added features to provide even greater service.

Similar to the initial embedded product, the OnGuard LS, the OnGuard LA features a miniaturized cellular device built into the Tracker itself. The newest feature offered with the embedded LA system is two-way voice communication between the driver and the OnGuard Response Center via a communications button. Along with wireless service provided by AT&T Wireless, the customer no longer has the need for a separate cellular phone or service. Like earlier versions of the OnGuard Tracker, the new LA will feature emergency/panic services, directional/roadside assistance, remote power door lock control, and low battery notification. "The OnGuard LA will provide our customers with the same sense of security as our earlier embedded product, but with a few added benefits" said ATX President and CEO, Steve Riebel.

The embedded cellular device was developed in a joint venture by ATX Technologies Inc. and Standard Communications. Standard Communications is a wireless communications company based in San Jose, Calif.

The OnGuard LA uses Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites and the embedded cellular technology to help recover a vehicle if stolen, or pinpoint the exact location of a customer if assistance is needed. If an OnGuard LA equipped vehicle is reported as stolen to the OnGuard response Center, the unit is activated. The Response Center then monitors the vehicle's speed, location and direction and provides updates to police. With police authorization, the Response Center can disable the vehicle's ignition. "The OnGuard LA is proof positive that ATX is fully committed to staying ahead of its competitors," said Mike Szumilas, Vice President of Marketing. "These efforts have been as a result of direct response to consumer's stated needs."
