PRINCETON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 8, 1999--
In a move analysts expect to increase the reach of e-commerce, ITXC announced the immediate availability of Borderless800SM.
The first phase of this service allows ITXC's carrier and reseller customers outside the U.S. to offer
ITXC is offering free access to U.S. tollfree numbers to its non-U.S. based wholesale customers. Currently U.S. tollfree numbers are not widely accessible from outside the U.S. and when they are accessible, calls to them often cost as much or more than other international calls.
Besides reducing the cost, ITXC's service eliminates the special dial instructions associated with Universal International Freephone Numbering (UIFN) (where available) and the higher expense of International Toll-Free Service (ITFS).
"Global companies view their call centers and web sites as strategic e-commerce investments." said Mark Plakias, Program Director, Voice & Wireless Commerce for The Kelsey Group. (www.kelseygroup.com) "They would appreciate any technical solution that leverages their investments in domestic 800 numbers and opens up the call center to any phone anywhere. We see this offering by ITXC as a positive for the 800 and e-commerce industries."
According to Jeff Pulver, publisher of The Pulver Report (http://pulver.com ), "ITXC has taken a giant step in promoting the convergence of tollfree numbers and web sites used in e-commerce. Any web site can be accessed over the Internet from anywhere in the world. Companies that advertise U.S. based national 1-800 numbers are now also transformed into 1-800 Global (or international) numbers with the advent of this service. The ITXC telephony network is overlayed on the Internet so it can erase borders for tollfree numbers as the Web does for e-commerce."
ITXC affiliates worldwide also have an immediate opportunity to offer tollfree calling into their own countries. As they make this available, all carriers and resellers on ITXC.net will be able to reach tollfree numbers in these additional countries as well.
"The Vermont Ski Areas Association is looking forward to seeing its members be able to receive calls on their existing 800 numbers from international locations. Vermont ski areas have web sites and attract skiers from around the world. Making it easier for these skiers to contact our ski areas would increase business," said Candy Moot, President of the Association.
