Bluesocket, a developer of wireless networks for portable devices based on the Bluetooth(TM) and 802.11b standards, today announced it has appointed Dr. Richard Klein as its vice president of advanced development.

"He is an award-winning engineer who brings 30 years of experience in wireline and wireless access technologies, backbone network technologies, network security, cellular networks and fiber optics."
Prior to Verizon, Dr. Klein was vice president and director of the Network Infrastructure Laboratory at GTE, responsible for evolving GTE's infrastructure for purposes of supporting services such as broadband multimedia, cellular, and wireless data.
Dr. Klein has had a long and distinguished career at GTE Laboratories (now Verizon Laboratories). In 1988, work in the area of optical fibers led to his receiving GTE's highest technical honor, the Leslie H. Warner Technical Achievement Award.
Dr. Klein was on the executive board of the Boston Chapter of the IEEE Engineering Management Society. He was a chapter president of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society; and he was chairman of the American Ceramic Society's Technical Committee on Fiber Optics. Dr. Klein has published or delivered over two-dozen technical publications and presentations, and he holds 13 U.S. patents.
He received both his Ph.D. degree in Ceramic Science and a bachelors of science in Ceramic Engineering, from SUNY College of Ceramics, Alfred University.
