Before joining Westwave, Dr. Afshar was the R&D manager at AT&T Laboratories, where he led a team responsible for the architecture of multimedia services on packet networks. In particular, his team focused on the design, prototyping, and evaluation of various architectures for IP Telephony. A 17-year AT&T veteran, Afshar contributed to the design, development, and delivery of numerous multi-million-dollar projects during his tenure, including telecommunications management systems and data networks featuring toll-free services, call center applications, and computer-telephony integration.
"As a result of Siroos' work with various R&D teams, he has established partnerships and worked closely with companies such as Sun Microsystems, HP, Telcordia, Lucent Technologies, British Telecom, France Telecom, Concert, 3COM, MCI, Sprint, Cisco, and IBM, among others," said Dave Ehreth, president and CEO of Westwave Communications. Dr. Afshar holds BSE, MSE, and PhD degrees, all in electrical and computer engineering. He has a patent in software engineering and two pending patents in IP Telephony, has been published in several technical journals and periodicals, and has spoken at many scientific and professional conferences. He is a senior member of IEEE, a member of the Association of Computing Machinery, and a member of the New York Academy of Sciences.
