Congress Considering Legislation to Create New Administrator for Science and Technology at EPA.

The House Science Committee recently approved legislation aimed at elevating the role of science at EPA. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Vernon Ehlers (R-Mich.), would create a new position of deputy administrator for science and technology. The new deputy reportedly would be an expert science advisor

for EPA, helping to coordinate the scientific efforts among the agency's offices and ensuring sound science is part of the regulatory process. AFS has consistently advocated the EPA's use of the best available science in developing and implementing environmental regulations.
