2003 Finest Awards

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 11, 2004

Mentus, a San Diego-based marketing communications agency, won a gold award for a national public relations recruitment program at this year's 2003 Finest Awards, hosted by the Health Care Communicators of San Diego (HCC). The HCC Finest Awards recognize exceptional work by communication professionals within the health care industry.

In the category of P.R. Media Relations, Mentus was recognized with top honors for its national public relations campaign to support clinical trial patient recruitment for Eunoe Inc.'s COGNIShunt clinical trial. The success of this campaign boosted the enrollment of Alzheimer's disease patients at more than 20 clinical trial sites across the country and helped to generate referring-physician awareness as well as caregiver and spousal support for the clinical trial.

"We are elated to receive this award for the distinctive work that our accomplished team provides our clients," said Guy Iannuzzi, president of Mentus. "That this honor comes from such a reputable group as HCC makes it all the more special to us."

Throughout the PR campaign, Mentus raised awareness of the Alzheimer's disease clinical trial and attained the client's goal of increased patient enrollment by distributing a radio news release, video news release and aggressively pitching regional television and print media. The video news release resulted in over 85 airings and the radio news release generated 231 airings, reaching a combined audience of 25 million.

Regional print activities resulted in numerous articles in local daily newspapers, while Mentus also secured extensive national coverage surrounding the publication of a paper in the journal Neurology which produced stories in TIME Magazine, Reuters, Los Angeles Times, and USA Today. PR outreach to regional TV stations resulted in over 200 airings in 20 cities where the trial was taking place. Additionally, an in-depth story that aired on CNN was picked up regionally resulting in 75 segments and over 5 million impressions.
