Talley Announces Stainless PriceIncrease.

HARTSVILLE, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 7, 1999--Talley Metals, part of Carpenter Technology Corporation (NYSE:CRS), has announced plans to increase transaction prices on all stainless steel bar and wire rod products effective with orders April 15.

Selling prices for Tally's 300 series

stainless products will increase by 7 cents per pound. Selling prices for all other grades will increase by 5 cents per pound.

The price increase is needed to maintain already depressed margins on bar and wire rod, Talley Metals said. Recent increases in raw material costs, coupled with 12 to 15 months of price deterioration due to unfairly priced imports, necessitated the move.

Talley operates a modern rolling mill in South Carolina and sells stainless bar to independent distributors and rod to wire redrawers in the United States.
