Everyday Edisons - Everyone Wins

Wednesday, February 6 2008

I’ve discovered an opportunity I want to share with inventors, with patent and prototype holders, but above all, people with ideas - dreamers. The PBS television program Everyday Edisons is remarkable. The show, whose tagline is “Ordinary People, Extraordinary Ideas”, casts 10 to 12 contestants per season and details the steps taken in transforming their inventions and ideas into finished products. They do a fantastic job of depicting the ways in which a rudimentary idea CAN be brought to market.

Everday Edisons is currently holding casting calls throughout the country. It’s hard not to love a show that features inventors helping other inventors – it’s exactly what I strive to do. But beyond offering 10 to 12 people an unbelievable opportunity to see their dreams come true, Everyday Edisons’ casting calls feature educational seminars, experts from the United States Patent and Trademark Office, open forum discussions, and question and answer sessions with former contestants. Everyone wins – the opportunity to learn from such a wealth of industry professionals and successful inventors is rare.

Everyday Edisons offers one other supremely unique and important opportunity. Participants with factory prototypes or finished products will be reviewed not only by the judging panel, but by representatives from major corporations such as Bed Bath and Beyond, Home Depot, QVC, PetSmart, The Sharper Image, Staples and buybuyBaby. I cannot stress how amazing this is! Cut cold calling, cut needing to hound the marketing and sales departments of the companies you’re interested in presenting your idea to – they are all in a single location, at your disposal!

Although the likelihood you will be selected as one of 10 to 12 contestants is obviously slim, attending an Everyday Edisons casting call is worth it simply for the impressive collection of expertise and information. Stay connected in the inventing community – don’t miss this opportunity.

The next Everyday Edisons’ casting call will be held on February 16th, in San Jose, California. For a complete list of casting call dates and further information about the show, visit http://www.everydayedisons.com/.

Stephen, thank-you and please share all the tips you can. I didn't hear of this in time to go to Atlanta, so I'm driving from FL to Dallas 3-15-08. I'm preparing the presentation, props and rough prototypes. I listen to every tele-conference, your 8 minute recording was great. With out you knowing it you are my coach and I'm doing everything my coach says. I'm going to make the show and you will be given credit. Anything you can help with I'm sure will be picked up by me and many others. So, Coach Key we will go out there and win (getting on the show). Thanks Lucky Chucky ...
