SYDNEY OLYMPIC PARK, Australia--Sept. 10, 2000--Worldwide Olympic Partner Samsung Electronics unveiled today the

centrepiece of its US$200 million global marketing campaign the Olympic Rendezvous @ Samsung, and signed an agreement to continue its sponsorship for the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Games and the Athens Olympic Games in 2004.

The 4,000 square-metre Olympic Rendezvous @ Samsung will be a safe and secure haven for athletes participating in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games where they can spend quality time with families and friends.

Visitors to Sydney Olympic Park will also be able to enjoy the public areas of Olympic Rendezvous @ Samsung which will feature live daily entertainment (bands and cultural performances); a technology showcase displaying Samsung's futuristic mobile phones and many opportunities to see athletes on stage for special presentations and appearances.

According to Vice Chairman and CEO of Samsung Electronics Mr Jong - Yong Yun:

"We want Olympic Rendezvous @ Samsung to be a meeting place for the world to gather and celebrate what is a unique experience - the Olympic Games. We are proud to be able to bring people together for this celebration."

Opening to the public on 15 September and running for the duration of the Games, most areas of the Olympic Rendezvous @ Samsung will operate between 7.30am and 11.30pm and will host some 600,000 visitors.

Mr Yun said Samsung's decision to renew its sponsorship as the Worldwide Partner in the Wireless Communications Equipment category was based on the successful partnership that had been forged between Samsung and the Olympic Movement. In addition, association with the Olympic Games has resulted in direct business benefits for Samsung. For example Olympic promotions have led to in some markets (US) a 311% increase in sales of Samsung mobile phones.

Currently the fourth largest producer of mobile phones in the world, Samsung's goal is to grow its telecommunications brand to become one of the top three brands by 2001.
