English news channels in India are in for a new kind of battle. Until now it has been channels from Hindi genre that had to fight tooth and nail to retain their supremacy.

The advertising pie claimed by news genre in India has grown sharply and that is why this battle becomes interesting. The advertising revenues from news is currently projected to be about US$115 million, with Hindi news genre garnering around 80% of the pie.
