Vicki Lee joined AdMedia parent 3media Group as ceo last month from another publisher - Pacific Magazines (New Idea, Girlfriend, NZ Weddings, That's Life) but her roots are firmly in the advertising business.
She started as a junior creative at J Inglis Wright Auckland (which became DDB Needham),
She then switched to the suit side of the business to work on McDonald's, moving through account executive to national account director. "And yes," Lee says, "I even have a degree in Marketing Hamburgerology from their uni in Chicago."
Lee next moved to DDB Melbourne (on McDonald's), and later joined specialist healthcare agency R&R, which was later bought by the Publicis global healthcare agency network, Medicus, which installed Lee as group md at Medicus Sydney.
She moved back to Melbourne to join H&T Advertising (an FCB company at the time) as md of H&T Melbourne and Auckland, prior to returning to NZ to head up Pacific Magazines in 2005. Like all good ad people, Lee also has a pro-bono side - she sits on the board of Look Good Feel Better, a charity that helps women with cancer.
"My vision is to continue the 3media journey delivering New Zealand's best business-to-business media solutions by creating magazines our readers enjoy," she told AdMedia. "We'll look to grow our existing titles and launch new ones, and we'll also take a look at any acquisitions that come across the desk.
"I'm here to grow this business, including the continued development of our online capabilities. We have a fantastic group of people who can drive this businesss forward. I'm looking forward to this next chapter in the 3media story."
