ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 3, 2000

August Radio and Print Ad Campaign Promotes Self-Install DSL in

Nine U.S. Markets

In its most aggressive broadband marketing push to date, EarthLink (Nasdaq: ELNK) has launched a mid-summer radio and

print ad campaign promoting EarthLink DSL in nine major markets. Highlighting the availability of self-install DSL service, the campaign also introduces reduced monthly access rates of $39.95 for new self-install EarthLink DSL customers in Dallas, the San Francisco Bay area, Los Angeles and neighboring Orange County.

With print ads touting, "The Faster Way to the Net," EarthLink is promoting quicker availability of DSL service through its self-install option that lets consumers get DSL -- from a true Internet company -- without having to wait for an installer to come to their home. EarthLink is currently ranked among the top five national DSL providers by DSLreports (www.dslreports.com), a Web site that rates DSL service providers based on independent consumer feedback.

"This is our first aggressive advertising push for self-install DSL and our first major DSL marketing push outside our narrowband member base," said Mike Lunsford, EarthLink's executive vice president of broadband services. "We've had great success with our self-install service option to date, so it's time to let folks outside our member base know there's a faster way to get DSL, and it's being offered by a company whose core competency is providing great Internet access."

The month-long campaign will run in major daily newspapers and on radio in Boston, Dallas, Los Angeles/Orange County, New York, Portland, San Francisco, Tampa, Seattle, and Washington, D.C. It represents the first work from TBWA\Chiat\Day, EarthLink's new ad agency of record.

EarthLink DSL is currently available in more than 50 major metropolitan areas through more than 2,650 Central Offices (COs). Also offering cable Internet access in nine areas nationwide, EarthLink is one of the only national ISPs that offers its members multiple broadband access options. Its commitment to offer high-speed DSL, cable Internet access, and other broadband technologies, and use of multiple broadband vendors, means EarthLink can offer its high-speed services to members in more areas of the country.

To date, EarthLink has set up roughly 13,000 self-installs out of its broadband customer base of approximately 80,000 customers. EarthLink recently launched the industry's first national DSL security solution, making available to all its customers free firewall software that provides an effective barrier against unwelcome intrusion and snooping by hackers.
